Dermatologic & Mohs Micrographic Surgery
Luke A. Horton, MD
Dr. Luke Horton is a board-certified dermatologist and board-eligible Mohs surgeon, fellowship-trained through the American College of Mohs Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston—one of the country’s most competitive and respected Mohs fellowships—under the direction of Dr. Joel Cook. His practice is grounded in a simple principle: every patient deserves an empathetic, caring physician who delivers the most advanced, evidence-based skin cancer care available, with equal attention to oncologic, functional, and aesthetic outcomes.
Dr. Horton earned his bachelor’s degree with honors in Science and Management, with an emphasis in biotechnology, graduating cum laude from Claremont McKenna College. He received his Medical Doctorate from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, earning honors in every clinical clerkship, winning the Year 3 academic achievement award as the top-performing medical student, and being inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society. He was also recognized with the school’s Senior Award in Dermatology and a Distinction in Biomedical Research. Motivated by a longstanding passion for helping patients with cancer, he completed his intern year at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York before training in dermatology at the University of California, Irvine, where he was selected as Chief Resident for Surgery and Research, followed by his ACMS fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery and dermatologic oncology at MUSC.
Dr. Horton maintains an exceptionally active academic record, with more than 35 peer-reviewed publications spanning skin cancer imaging, advanced surgical and reconstructive techniques, and clinical dermatology, along with dozens of national and international presentations. His work has earned numerous honors, including a Top 20 finalist distinction for the American Academy of Dermatology’s 2026 Poster Exhibit Award (from over 2,300 submissions) and a Top 10 Cosmetics abstract award from the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and he serves as a reviewer for several dermatology and surgical journals. A Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and member of numerous professional societies, he has also volunteered well over 1,000 hours in underserved communities through local clinics, street medicine programs, and international outreach. Outside the office, he is an avid basketball player and former NCAA baseball player, a national parks enthusiast, a devoted reader of epic fantasy and science fiction, and a loyal Chicago sports fan who enjoys traveling with his fiancée and dog.
